Demand to Negotiate
Dear Captain McKinley,
It has come to our knowledge via a newspaper article published in the Orlando Sentinel Newspaper late last week, that the Sheriff is offering an additional incentive package to qualified Captains and higher ranking command staff that is not now available to bargaining unit members of the Sheriff’s Office.
Pursuant to Article 13 – Compliance with General and Special Orders and Substitution of Modifications; specifically Section 4, the Association hereby formally demands to negotiate for the bargaining unit members of both units, the same benefits and adjustments that were offered to the Captains and higher Command Staff.
We preserve our right to file class action grievances for both units for the failure on the part of the Sheriff to notify the Association as required under Article 13; Section 4.
Your prompt response to this correspondence is appreciated, since time is of the essence.
Sincerely, Stephen A. Micciche Lead Negotiator for the FPBA

Orlando, FL, October 4, 2007: As the political season gets underway, the Central Florida Police Benevolent Association (CFPBA) is looking forward to conducting political screenings of Sheriff Candidates for Orange, Lake and Osceola counties.
"The sworn and civilian support staff of these Sheriff's Offices need a real understanding of how their potential employer will deal with crucial issues inside and outside the confines of their respective agencies. The CFPBA political screenings give an opportunity for the candidates to communicate their vision and plans to the future employees and constituents they seek to serve in their role as Sheriff. Our desire is that employees and constituents in attendance will obtain a greater understanding of the candidates based on each candidate's input.", states CFPBA President John Park.
The CFPBA will be holding political screenings on January 11, 2008 for those who have properly filed as Orange, Lake and Osceola Sheriff candidates. Endorsements will be announced shortly thereafter.
Further information will be available soon. |

Orlando, FL, September 18, 2007 – On Monday, September 17th the University of Central Florida (UCF) Police Department's bargaining unit, represented by the Central Florida Florida Police Benevolent Association (PBA), voted to accept their proposed contract with 34 votes for and 7 votes against the contract. There were 41 ballots cast out of 50 eligible voters.
Central Florida PBA President John Park states, "This ratification comes after very difficult times for Florida law enforcement, especially University and state police agencies that rely on the Florida Legislature for their much needed pay enhancements. Due to the potential fallout regarding property tax reform coupled with Florida's economic problems, University and state law enforcement officers only received a taxed out one-time bonus of approximately $680 this year. Fortunately, the UCF leaders and PBA worked out a plan to pay their officers more by means of a 1.5% - 3% increase depending on years of service as well as increases in clothing allowances. Additionally, the UCF officers will now have improvements in scheduling notifications to help them prepare for potential callouts and overtime work for large UCF events. None of these improvements would be possible without the quality leadership of UCF's new police chief Richard Beary who streamlined management to redistribute that money to his rank and file troops." |
