Re: Status of Relationship between United Healthcare and Florida Hospital
Dear Gentlemen:
Please allow me to briefly introduce myself, my name is John Park and I am the president of the Central Florida Police Benevolent Association (PBA). The PBA is the collective bargaining agent for deputies, corporals and sergeants working for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies in the greater Orlando area. Our various members include police officers, correctional officers and deputy sheriffs.
My reason for contacting both of you is simple. Several thousand of our members and their families utilize the services of your companies for purposes of medical care. These members are extremely concerned (literally worried sick in some instances) about the inability of your companies to reach a resolution which will permit Florida Hospital Central Care (and some other Florida Hospital medical physicians and providers) to continue offering medical services to our members through United Healthcare.
The PBA does numerous negotiations on behalf of our members so we certainly understand the negotiations process going on between your two organizations. However, our members are very concerned with ensuring that they and their families will continue to receive quality medical services at a reasonable fee. They are also concerned about these services being readily and reliably accessible, especially in case of an emergency.
Under the circumstances, the PBA and our members are requesting that you act in the public interest and reach a fair and timely resolution of your pending dispute. As our members provide safety to the citizens of Central Florida, your companies have an equal responsibility for those to whom you provide medical services. We simply hope both companies make a sincere effort to fairly resolve your differences. Certainly, our members would appreciate it and we are sure the citizens of the greater Central Florida area would also appreciate it.
Thank you for your consideration of our perspective on this important issue.
Respectfully
John Park President Central Florida PBA |
